WHO NEEDS PET CT SCAN?

For detection and staging of disease For early evaluation of response, differentiate between responder & non responder Effectiveness of treatment Detection of early recurrence RT planning PET guided biopsy click here

What PET Sees

PET is a procedure that is able to detect small cancerous tumors, and also subtle changes in the brain and heart. This enables physicians to treat these diseases earlier and more accurately than if they waited for the results from other detection modalities. A PET scan puts time on your side! The earlier the diagnosis, the better the chance for successful treatment. click here PET scans offer patients hope. PET can detect disease sooner and the earlier the detection, the more likely the cure! Prior to changes in structure that normally would show up on a CT or MRI scan, a PET scan can reveal metabolic changes in the body. Cancer is a metabolic process and PET is a metabolic imaging technique. PET shows the extent of disease – called staging – of lung cancer, colorectal cancer, melanoma, head and neck cancer, breast cancer, lymphoma and many other cancers. For patients whose cancer is newly diagnosed, it is important to determine if cancer has spread to other parts of the body so ...

What Is Better: CT Scan or MRI?

CT and MRI scans provide excellent anatomic imaging. 2  The underlying reason for the scan determines which is more appropriate. CT scans are better at imaging bones and blood vessels and are frequently taken to assess traumatic injuries. MRI scans provide better soft tissue contrast and help providers distinguish between fat, water, muscle, and other soft tissue t tissues. click here

Why is a PET scan performed?

Your doctor may order a PET scan to inspect your   blood flow , your oxygen intake, or the metabolism of your organs and tissues. PET scans show problems at the cellular level, giving your doctor the best view of complex systemic diseases. PET scans are most commonly used to detect: cancer heart problems brain disorders , including problems with the  central nervous system (CNS) Cancer Cancer cells can have a higher metabolic rate than noncancerous cells. Because of this high level of chemical activity, cancer cells often show up as bright spots on PET scans. For this reason, PET scans are useful both for detecting cancer and for: seeing if the cancer has spread seeing if a cancer treatment like  chemotherapy  is working checking for a cancer recurrence However, these scans should be read carefully and explained by a doctor, as it’s possible for noncancerous conditions to look like cancer on a scan. It’s also common for solid tumors to fail to appear on PET sc...

What’s the difference between a PET scan, CT scan and MRI?

Computed tomography (CT)   scans use X-rays.   Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)   scans use magnets and radio waves. Both produce still images of organs and body structures. PET scans use a radioactive tracer to show how an organ is functioning in real time. PET scan images can detect cellular changes in organs and tissues earlier than CT and MRI scans. Your healthcare provider may perform a PET scan and CT scan at the same time (PET-CT). This combination test produces 3D images that allow for a more accurate diagnosis. Some hospitals now use a hybrid PET/MRI scan. This new technology creates extremely high-contrast images. Providers mainly use this type of scan for diagnosing and monitoring cancers of the soft tissues (brain, head and neck,  liver  and pelvis). click Here

what is ct scan?

CT Scan A series of x-ray images when taken for variable angles and combined together through computer processing, it creates cross-sectional images of the organs. The technique is known as the CT Scan (Computer Tomography). It is a quick examiner of any type of internal injuries and can scan any body part which helps the doctor to plan for the treatment and medication, be it surgical or through radiations.
